Why Izzit...Bored...bored...I'm freakin' bored! March 16 Diamond HeadThese are some of the pictures that were taken at the top of the Diamond Head Crater. The last time I went there was ages ago, so when my mom was in Hawaii for a vacation last year, I decided to take her up there. The hike up to the summit was pretty nice, especially the view. Although I have to admit, I kinda dreaded the walk up the steep stairway. The first set of stairway was about 74 steps, then it was the narrow tunnel....this time it was lighted. The last time I was there, it wasn't lighted and it was so dark. Really creepy.... As we went into the tunnel, my friend kept whispering, 'The way is shut...' (It's a line from the Lord of the Rings) I think he fancies himself as Aragon or maybe Legolas.
Then we get to the second set of stairway, which was about 99 steps. Never look up or look down when you climb the stairs. The steps are steep and looking down was kinda scary, while looking up when you're at the bottom of the stairs will just make cringe at the task of climbing those steps.
There are quite a few stairs to climb, even after that. But let me tell you this....when you get up there and you look at the view....the hike and walk up all those stairs, was well worth it. Its so beautiful.
I don't know if you can see it, but these are the steeps. Rather steep....
Waikiki. Well, since I don't have time to write, I decided to just post some pictures and I hope for the time being, it is good enough. :) Till next time....Aloha! March 13 Just for laughs....Been really busy with school work and just life coming at me, at an amazing speed. I just didn't have much time to sit and actually post something to this blog. It was always, sleep or post something here.....and sleep wins, all the time. Anyway, on the rare occasions that I'm actually at home with some free time, I managed to take some funny pictures of Diesel. At least I think its funny. Thought I should share some of it with you guys. Hope you think it's just as funny. :) And I'll try to update this blog, as much as I can.
I call this the 'Diesel Fro' shot. Those fur pom pom things on his head are for my hair and Diesel is always sniffing and trying to play with it....coz I think he thinks its his toy. So I thought it would be funny to put it on him. What do you think?
This picture, I call it 'The Cheerleader'. Although I don't think the look on Diesel's face was much of a cheer....more like, leave me alone, kinda look. This is what I call the 'Money Shot'. Also known as 'Leave me alone' shot. Yes....I left him alone after this shot. :) Well that is it for now. Till next time....Aloha! January 04 Hello??Whoa.....I just realized it's been 2 months since I last posted my last entry. I am not even sure if anyone still checks out my blog. From the statistics, it does look like there are some occasional visitors.....which is nice, I guess. How was Christmas? New Year? I had a blast.....got wonderful presents for Christmas and I had a blast on New Year too. Yes....while most of my friends tells me that Christmas is not about presents.....to me, it's all about presents. Don't get me wrong, spending time with my family was a bonus and I love everything I got for Christmas but the presents I'm talking about are the presents I get to give to my family and friends.
All year long, I would write down a list of things that my friends and family would like. Things that would just say off hand but never ever bring themselves to buy it. So when Christmas comes around, I take out the list and try to get them whatever that they said they liked. Although there were some that was left off the list.....like the $2000 chanel bag that my friend absolutely loves. I know presents are to be opened on Christmas day....but I always insist that all my friends open their presents together, before all of us leave for our Christmas vacations. So then I get to open mine too. :)
New year eve, I stayed home with my friends. We watched the fireworks together and just relax. We were going to go clubbing, but the idea of just dressing up and going to some over crowded club just didn't appeal to any of us. We wanted to just relax and watch the fireworks.
Before I started writng this entry I had so many things I wanted to write about and now....it's all gone. Anyway I'll try to update my blog more often and I've got some really cool pictures that I've took. I'll try to remember to upload the pictures tonight. Till then....take care!
October 23 The Diesel Story. This is a story about a girl and her cat....to be exact, its a story about my cat, Diesel and why I had no say about naming him. Like some of my friends, when I first introduce them to Diesel, they would always assume either I named him after one of my favorite clothing lines or after Vin Diesel. Then I would have to tell them the Diesel story and without missing a beat, my friends would say, "Oh.....its just like the movie 'Meet the Parents', right?"
OK, let me explain. About 3 years ago, my housemate, Felisa came home all excited. She asked me if I want to cat sit a cat for a couple months. Apparently one of her friends had some family crisis and he just had to leave. And his cat had been locked in his apartment for a week without anybody looking in on him. You see...Felisa knew that when it comes to cats, I'm a softy and she knew I would do it. While my other housemate, Emily, was harder to convince because she was a dog person. But she gave in when I promised I'll take care of the cat. Felisa's friend offered to pay for all the cat's expenses and all I have to do is just take care of the cat till he returns to Hawaii in about 3 months.
Boy was I excited. When I got home from school, there was Diesel, hiding the table. He stayed there all day until when I was alone in the livivng room...then he would sneak out and just plopped down next to me. After a couple days, he got used to the surrounding and started to poke his nose into everything....and I mean everything. Initially Felisa and I found Diesel amusing, Emily did not. She hated Diesel. Let's just say....I was begining to think it is going to be the longest 3 months till the cat's owners came back for him.
One morning, about a week after we got Diesel, I woke up and could not find him in the apartment. I went to bed early the night before and before going to bed, I told Emily to make sure that the windows were pulled close leaving only about an inch of it open. We were living on the 29th floor and I was afraid Diesel would climb on the window and fall out. When I went to the living room looking for Diesel that morning, the windows were opened a little wider but I swear.....no way in heck can a cat squeeze through.
Our apartment were filled with moving boxes because Felisa just moved in and had yet to unpack. So looking for Diesel was harder. I called out for him and yet nothing. No bells....no meow. I woke everyone up and started looking for him. I even pushed the windows wider to look down and nothing. We could not ask the security of the building if they found a cat because like most apartment buildings, no pets are allowed.
Honestly the only way out of the apartment was the window and I really don't want to think that it might be true. Reluctantly I went downstairs and started calling his name. Hoping that maybe, by some miracle, Diesel might survive the fall. For two whole days, we continued looking for him and then one day my friend started talking to the gardeners of the building. Diesel did fall out of the window. One of the gardeners found a dead body of cat early in the morning and he cleaned it away before most of the residents were awake.
I felt so bad. He was resposibilty and I was supposed to keep an eye on him. But I didn't. I refused to let him enter my room at night because I knew he would start meowing and bug me. So I left him outside in the living room. It was later I found out that cat can use their nose and their head to nudge the window to open wider. They can squeeze through the smallest spaces.
While I do feel bad, it was then reality sunk in. The cat that we were supposed to keep an eye on, died. We are now, officially screwed! The only thing we could think of is to get another cat that looks like Diesel and hopefully we can pass him off as the old Diesel. It took Felisa three trips to the Hawaii Humance Society till she found a cat that looks like Diesel. Felisa said when she entered the cat house, Diesel (the new one) was the only one that came out and started to sniff Felisa's hand, which is odd because Diesel is never that friendly to strangers.
We got the cat home and we had 3 months to actually train the cat to answer to the name Diesel. And that we did. We started to call him Diesel and he answered. Diesel even melted Emily's dog loving heart. Even as we started to care for Diesel I knew that I was not looking forward to day I have to give Diesel up. We were all so attached to Diesel. Then it was on the three months mark, Felisa's friend calls and drops the bomb....actually it was more like a good news.
He had decided that he won't be coming back to Hawaii and that he wanted Felisa to try find a good home for the cat. You won't believe how relieve we were because we knew that even though the new Diesel has the same colors and looked the same, he was a complete different cat. Lets just say the new Diesel was more well mannered. Felisa never told her friend that his cat died. So instead of sending the cat back to the Humance Society, I decided to keep Diesel.
So there.....that's the Diesel Story. No Ben Stiller or Robert Deniro, but a really great cat who just love to wake me up at 5 in the morning.....just coz he could. :)
October 16 A freaky day! Thanks for stopping by my space to check out if I'm OK.....I'm OK. So is Diesel. The quake started at around 7 in the morning. I was in bed, sleeping, when I suddenly felt Diesel, who was also sleeping next to me, jumped up and sat straight up. His sudden movement woke me up and when I looked at him I felt the bed started to shake.
Then I looked at my TV and I saw the TV stand just shaking. I could hear stuff falling off the shelves in the living room and the princess was freaking out in her room. I just grabbed Diesel and jumped out of bed....not sure if I should head for the doorway or just stand clear of anything that could fall on my head. Both, the princess and the gossip burst into my room and was talking all at once.
It was crazy. All of us were talking at once and Diesel had his claws in my tee shirt, clinging to me. We could feel the building kinda swaying and as I looked outside, I saw the poles outside shaking too. Then the power went out. We kept asking ourselves, 'Earthquake?' OK....as you can see, we've never experience earthquakes before and even with the whole building shaking like heck, we were still not sure if it was an earthquake. Then the power came back on....which made us all kinda relieved and it lasted for only a couple second before we felt the building swaying again....and this time since all the books and knick knacks has already fallen on the floor, it was just shook, while we once again stared at each other in disbelief.
Then the power went out again. And this time it lasted for about 12 hours. That was how long it took till we got our power back on. As the day got on, there was no water. So we had no water or electricity. Tried calling my aunt but it was so difficult to get through. One thing I learned was that if you have a land line, make sure its not cordless. With the power out, we could not use the land line and we all had to use our wireless phone. My wireless batteries ran out pretty quick.
Our kitchen had loads of chips and cookies and thats all. Everything else is in the freezer and since we have no electricity, it does not help much, right? You know what was the freakiest thing to me? As soon as the quake was over, I got out my radio and I tried to get a radio station. For the first 10 minutes I turned on the radio all I got was static. There were no stations...nothing. Seriously I got really freaked out....I blame it on that TV show 'Jericho'. Sounds silly now but I just needed to hear someone....anyone over the radio.
I looked out my window and almost all the residents in the neighbouring apartment buildings were looking out. of their windows. Not sure what to do. Then when there was finally someone over the radio, we found out that it was an earthquake and the power is out in the whole state. As time past, things weren't too bad.
The gossip told me that one of her friends who was also living in the same apartment building, got stuck in the elevator when the power went out. She and her two young daughters were stuck in the elevator for two hours before someone came to rescue them out. That is scary, isn't it?
So we were trapped in our apartments...not really trapped. We could leave but we're on the 15th floor and just the thought of walking down and up 15 flights of stairs was enough to tell me that a day of chips and cookie diet is not too bad. In the end, the gossip went down to Chinatown and bought all of us food. She said that Chinatown was packed with people and there was almost a fight in one of the bakeries. Some guy who was in the front of the line told the baker, who just came out from the back with fresh pastries, that he wants all the pastries that was on the tray. That cause everybody else in the line to get a tad angry at the guy.
Amazing how everybody seemed to bounce back from the earthquake and making the best out of the situation. On the garden deck children were out running, swimming and just messing around, while some families would be barbecuing. It looked like just any other day....except there is no power or water. :) Even when the power got back on in the evening, there were no restaurants opened and once again, back to chips and cookies.
While I was tempted to go down to the pool, I didn't. Once again, walking down the stairs in complete darkness kinda is kinda scary. Instead I stay home and just catch up on my reading. Diesel stayed close to me the whole day. He actually came and sit on my lap by himself, something he really hates doing and never does it by himself. I think Diesel is still a little jumpy. His fur, since the quake had been puffed up and although it had gone down a little, he is still a little jumpy. He has also been shedding like crazy....his fur is everywhere. Since the princess is gonna be home all day, I've told the princess to check on him when she has the time.
Well that is it. Although its rather boring....that was how I spend my wonderful Sunday. How was your sunday? |
